AGM

Thank you to those who attended the AGM at Stoughton RBL last night, although it was a very disappointing turn out with only 11 people including 3 committee members. Wonersh, Milford, Ockford, Knaphill and Merrow were represented but, Farncombe Soc, Godalming Naval, Shalford Soc, Stoughton RBL, Woking Snooker Centre and Woodbridge Hill were not.

Martin Chubb has resigned as chairman and Peter White has stepped up from vice-chairman to chairman. There were no other changes on the committee, so Graham Clay (President), Paul Killen (Secretary) and Luke Perry (Assistant Secretary) were voted back in for the 2024/25 season

The Items on the agenda were :

1.Proposed by Paul Killen, to make the Bob Robins cup a handicap competition where players from Division’s 2 & 3 will play against there opponents handicap, the same as the Riley cup to make it more of a level playing field as records show its the top few teams in division 2 are the usual winners.

This was voted in unanimously.

2. Proposed by Paul Killen, to give 24 hours notice by an away team to the home team providing after match food that they have to postpone the match, if the notice is not given the home may claim the match if they wish.

This was voted in unanimously

3. Proposed by Steve Chalcraft, to increase the number of matches in divisions 2 & 3 can use 3 players in league matches from 6 to 12 or unlimited.

It was voted in to increase it to 10 matches.

4. Proposed by Paul Killen, to make an additional charge of £5 for players playing in the billiard league as well as the snooker league, as the league subsidises the billiard league at present.

This was voted in unanimously.

5. Proposed by Yusuf Deegan, to increase the division 2 matches to 5 frames using 3,4 or 5 players to help teams adjust if they are promoted to the premier league where 6 frames are played.

This was not voted in and it was decided the secretary will talk to division 2 teams when the registration forms are returned.

6. Proposed by Dean Reeve, to bring back a non handicap team cup competition.

It was voted in to bring back the Mike Newland cup, but it would only be held if a minimum 8 teams entered. This cup competition is a 4 player cup.

7. Proposed by Paul Killen, to suspend the presentation night, instead present the perpetual cups for league winners on or just before the last match of the season along with a cash prize instead of a trophy and a smaller cash prize for the runners up. Also take the respective perpetual cup to each competition final where it would be presented to the winners along with a cash prize and again a smaller cash prize for the runners up. A small cash prize will be given to the highest break in all leagues and competitions. Each perpetual cup will be taken back on the night after photos taken then engraved and given back at the AGM for each winner to display in their clubs until mid-March the following season. The winner of the Grundy trophy will be invited to the AGM to collect their award. This was proposed due to poor attendance especially by players who win an award still not turning up to collect it, for example this year out of 135 registered players 38 attended and 35 who were due an award as part of team, pairs or individual did not attend.

This was voted in with a majority of 8 votes for and 3 against.

In Any Other Business it the subject of handicaps came up and after a lengthy discussion it was decided all handicaps were reduced by 7 then a handicap meeting will be arranged with all team captains invited to determine handicaps for the coming season. As there will not be a presentation Luke Perry suggested a snooker fun scotch doubles day at possibly a multi table venue such as Woking Snooker Centre. Luke will look into this. 

Paul Killen informed the room that he is looking at a possible new website that will update player stats automatically along with other features, he has started setting it up as it is free for the first season and if suitable for us we will use this season to transition to the new site.

The league and team cup registration form was handed out at the meeting and is due back to the secretary by Friday 16th August. The singles and pairs form is due in by Friday 27th September, both with all monies owed.
